Probably one of those more tedious tasks in your Internet marketing business, aside from bookkeeping, is remembering to measure the results from each campaign you send out.

Tedious or not, it is very important to your success.

Don’t just measure the results by looking at orders in your PayPal account but look at the metrics provided by your email list server, and if you ran a pay per click (PPC) campaign, look at the metrics of that too.

The information you’re looking for are conversions, whether that is sales, or newsletter sign ups or something else. Whatever your hoped for result is your conversion. Another thing you’re looking for is how much did it cost you? What did you spend?  If you were selling a product what was your return on investment (ROI).

You also want to study how many clicks you got from your efforts. Some clicks will result in actual page views, some will result in bounces. How do the two compare. How many clicks did you get before you had a conversion?

Speaking of bounces, this is an important metric to study as well. If you had thousands of clicks, but a bounce rate of 75%, why? Is something wrong with your sales page, your copy, what is causing the bounces?

Sometimes bounces are caused by page errors, so you must also track errors because the last thing you want it to spend money on a PPC campaign only to have tons of errors that skew your conversion rates and ROI. Everything could be perfect about your entire campaign, but if the technology is not working, that can mean disaster.

If you have a search on your page, which you should, what are your site visitors searching for? This is a very important tool to have. If you can see what your visitors are searching for you can make sure to offer them exactly what they need if they did not find it that time.

If you have a shopping cart, you should also be checking how many people are stopping their sale after they put items in the cart. Is it because they could not see the price in advance, and now that they saw the price they bail? Is your shopping cart working correctly? Is your shopping cart confusing to use?

As you see there are many metrics you should look at each campaign because without this information you cannot improve. In fact if you seek to change anything about anything looking at your metrics can also prevent you from changing things that already work too.

Email marketing can be very effective for promoting your business. It is a tricky area though and it is easy to make common email marketing mistakes if you don’t know the right methods to use. This can be frustrating for you as it will cost you money yet not generate any additional sells.

Here are some common email marketing mistakes and pitfalls you need to be aware of.
(It will make your marketing strategies more effective.)

Consumers what to feel like they are a person to your business, not just a statistic. Take the time to address each email personally. It is more expensive, but it is more effective. You will get a much better response then something addressed to ‘Dear Customer”. Don’t use dollar signs in your email marketing campaign. It is turn off to consumers who view it as you only want their money.

Don’t use email marketing during the holidays. Customers are flooded with them and yours won’t stand out. People are too busy and stressed to relax and read email that is not personal or important at this time of year. If you want to market for the holidays then you need to do it early at least before Thanksgiving.

Consumers don’t have a lot of patience! Your email message needs to jump out at them the moment they open it. Put the most enticing information first with the other details further down. They are more likely to read the entire email message if you get their attention from the start. As each consumer is different, so is their computer set up and the type of program they use. Don’t assume the email will open up the same in every type of email service. You will need to test it out for each popular email service.

Always give the consumer the option of opening the email in either html or plain text.

Confidentiality is very important to consumers. Make sure your email sign up clearly states that you will not sell their information and that it will be kept confidential and secure. You will be surprised how many people won’t sign up for your email promotions if you don’t offer this bit of information. There are rules and regulations out there regarding what you can and can’t do when it comes to email marketing. Make sure you are familiar with those laws. They vary by country so if you do global marketing make sure you check the regulations for each area you will be sending them to. Failure to do so can lead to huge fines for your business.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking you know what your consumers want. If you really want to know what they are after then take the time to ask. Be open to their comments, questions, suggestions, and concerns. Letting them know you are available for such customer service is a great way to earn their loyalty. It is easy to sell something to a consumer but much harder to please them so they will come back again and again.

If you are new to email marketing, consult with a professional. This will make the entire process flow easier for you as well as yield better results. Take the time to research the consultant before using them. As for references and talk about what your goals are. If the consultant is not willing to make your goals a priority then don’t work with them. Are you afraid to spend a large amount of your revenue on marketing?

Consider working with a broker consultant. This means you only pay them for the actual positive results the marketing brings you. They will be paid based on the traffic they generate for your site or the amount of new sales resulting from the email marketing. Make sure what ever method you choose is clear to both parties and in writing. Make sure the time frame that they will receive benefits for is clear as well.

Remember you don’t want unhappy subscribers to your email marketing campaigns. The laws require you to offer a link where customers can unsubscribe. While you want to do all you can to keep them reading your emails, it is important to respect their wishes and remove them from the mailing list immediately. They will become very frustrated if they continue to receive them once they have asked to be removed. It can cost you their future business. Email marketing can be effective for your business if you keep these common mistakes from becoming part of your marketing plan.

To Kick Off Your Email Marketing Campaign Take A Look At Aweber

I understand your pain… Every time you send a message to your list how many even see it, let alone read it?  10%, 20%… Maybe if you’re lucky (or possess the technical skills of a 4th Dan Deliverability Expert) you could possibly squeeze 50%…

Let’s face it, it doesn’t matter how carefully you crafted that email or how long you spent putting that killer offer together if more than half the people on your list never even see your email – Email Marketers are losing out big time and it’s getting worse.

Spam filters.  Ouch!  But they’re only 1 part of the problem aren’t they?

Why?… Well even if your message isn’t jettisoned into some black hole by an over-zealous spam filter, there are so many  O.B.M’s (Other Bloody Marketers) competing for the eyes and ears of your prospects it’s getter harder and harder to stand out in the crowd…

Don’t Let Your Business Go The Way Of The Dodo!

Look.. I’m sorry about this, but here’s a question you’d probably rather not think about let alone answer…  How much extra profit do you think you’d earn if every message you sent to your list was actually seen and read by everyone you sent it to every time?

I’m talking about…

…A guaranteed 100% open rate!

But hold on – that couldn’t be possible could it?

Well maybe yes / maybe no but here’s a new tool that might just jump your response rate by several percentages.

And worked in combination with your current email system it could put a little jump in your step over the coming months

It’s called DeskTop Pop and you can read more right here
